Shout out to media during COVID-19
It’s April 7, 2020. We’re currently living through one of the most difficult weeks in modern history.
During normal times I watch national news broadcasts each night and local news each morning. I read, and subscribe, to national newspapers, magazines and follow local news. My job and company are tied to the success of news media. I’m a big fan and often post about the critical role media play in our democracy.

However, these aren’t normal times. And during COVID-19, my appreciation and appetite for news media has intensified.
This post is to recognize the many unsung heroes of the COVD-19 pandemic … the news media. Without them, we would struggle to tell fact from fiction, to hear/see/listen from our health leaders and government officials. It would be difficult to understand how to act or respond safely. These are unprecedented times. And we need media more than ever.
So how can we help support the media industry? There are many ways. And many don’t come with a hefty price tag.
- Subscribe to a news service
- Sign up for a newsletter from a news site.
- Buy a magazine or newspaper when shopping for groceries.
- Like and share mainstream media tweets and posts with your social feeds.
- Follow journalists and media outlets.
- If you’re a business that generally advertises, try to maintain your ad purchases.
- Watch the ads on media websites.
Every bit counts. And, like many businesses, the industry is facing tough economic times. We need media more than ever. Let’s do what we can to support.
